Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Lowell Mills on July 20, 2009:
Col. Woodley was my T.A. (teaching assistant) at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana in the 1978-1979 school year. He taught a bunch of us aerospace and other engineers Theoretical and Applied Mechanics in our sophomore years.
He used to describe himself as "the oldest T.A. in captivity." He explained that after retiring from the Army he wanted to finally earn his engineering Ph.D. A bunch of us were Air Force ROTC cadets in aerospace engineering, and so he'd ridicule the A-10 close air support plane as ineffectual against Army tanks. (Later events in the Gulf would show the A-10 actually did pretty well.)
As a retired Army colonel, T.R. got quite a bit of respect from us kids aspiring to military careers. I remember completing that day's homework outside of and prior to his class every day, and I learned a lot from him.
Just wanted to pass along a few memories of a memorable man.
