Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Dennis Coupe on November 9, 2009:

Hey, Joe, you were the youngest of our faculty group at the JAG School. I can't believe you've left us so soon. In our three years teaching together, and ever since, your optimism countered my negativism; your humor my seriousness; your slap-down blocks my lay-ups; your roasting anecdotes my foolish pride. We laughed a lot about all that and so much more--the time I handed back your legal memo and told you to find the two typos. The time you saw the Playboy magazine in the road, pulled your van over and told me to "Quick, get it before someone runs over it!" The time I complained how badly I played a match and you informed me that the parents of the guy I beat were standing right behind me. I will miss your good will, your humor, your sense of hope in the face of sadness, your perspective and your constant decency. Joe, in the words of Tom Wolfe, you were a "man in full". God rest.
