Anthony Joseph Delano

May 18, 1928 -- December 22, 2009

Anthony Joseph Delano was born in Westport, Connecticut on 18 May 1928 and was appointed to West Point on a Senatorial appointment.

His West Point classmates recall: "Tony, a New Englander by tradition and sentiment, possesses a flair for covering long distances on the cinders. Although threatening to fulfill a desire for jogging home some weekend, to date the grind hasn't driven him to this extreme. He sometimes betrays his former ways by an occasional outburst of Eli tunes. A Yankee through and through, he was last seen hurling defiance at he rebels."

During his cadet days Tony went out for Cross Country all four years and earned Numerals, Monogram and a Minor "A" in that sport. He also went out for Track all four years and earned Numerals, and a Major "A" in that sport as well as a Navy Star for beating Navy. Tony was with the German Club his cow year and was a Cadet First Sergeant his first class year.

On graduation Tony went in the Corps of Engineers and after completing the Basic Engineers Course at Fort Belvoir, Virginia reported to the 2nd Engineer Combat Battalion, 2nd Division, in Korea where he served from 1952 to 1953. He was decorated with the Bronze Star. On return to stateside Tony was assigned to Fort Leonard Wood and served from 1953 to 1954 when he resigned his commission as First Lieutenant. Tony then went back to school and earned a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree from Columbia in 1955. In 1962 Tony was named Engineering Manager for Bolt Associates Inc. and in 1968 he was appointed Vice President of the firm.

The November 1997 Assembly notes; "Tony and Pat Delano, report that he is recovering well from the stroke he had last year. He can walk and resume a near normal life. They spent last February in Clearwater, FL."

Tony and his wife Pat made their home in Stradford, Connecticut.
