Be Thou At Peace

Posted by robert effinger on February 2, 2010:

John O'Dowd was an incredible officer and leader who played a huge role in shaping my life. As an EOBC student of his, I can't say enough about his terrific sense of humor; his ability to lead, coach, and mentor me, as well as a bunch of rookie 2LTs, into the Army was first-rate - he was made for that job and perfect at it. He had an impact on all of us! As a result of his leadership, I decided to do whatever it took to serve in the US Army.

While proceeding through the paces of an Army career, I never met another leader that fit that mold, but then again that's what set him apart, and I never expected to. His ability to challenge us all was uniquely, and vintage, "O'Dowd."
I suspect we will all remember that challenging tone, yet good natured demeanor, and engage/ contribute a little more in this life as a result of it. Hats off John O'Dowd for all you've done for me and all the lives you so charismatically touched. Sincerly, R.C.Effinger, COL, AV (EOBC Class '82)
