Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Gordie Tillery on March 3, 2010:
While we are WP classmates, we really got to know each other when serving together in Europe in 1980-81, and then in Washington DC starting in 1984. In Europe, Terry was the lead element of a new HQs standing up in Northern Europe and worked hard at getting both the internal and the international details right so the Army's new HQ was a success. I visited Terry's location several times, and Terry and Kathy graciously welcomed me as a guest in their home. In DC, Terry was a primary lead for the Army's initiative to create 5 new light infantry divisions, and again his focus and perseverance were key to the Army's success. Then Terry made the leap to Congressional liaison, where he paved the way for enduring legislative support for the Army. In addition to being an inspiring, smart, and hard working officer, Terry taught me to enjoy running. I carry memories of our runs by the Potomac River - and shared battle stories. Terry related the horrors of combat when he commanded an infantry company in the excursion into Cambodia in 1970, and his unit's capture of the overwhelming logistical depot called "the city." And of his time as a helicopter pilot, flying so low he collected tree branches in the skids. Despite all his career succeses, Terry was always proudest of his family and their achievements. Terry, you are my friend, forever. Your classmates, the Army, and your nation will miss you.
