Bill and I were classmates in the class of 1950 at West Point. I didn't know him well at West Point, But respected his ability on the football field. We were in different regiments and did not come in contact often. Bill and I reported to the Third Engineer Battalion of The 24th Infantry Division on the same day in late August of 1950, and were assigned to different companies. Since we were in the same Battalion our paths crossed frequently when we were platoon leaders and junior staff officers. Bill was always 100% capable, never ruffled and always available as a friend. These same traits were evident when we met through the years at class reunions. Bette and I send our heartfelt sympathy to Betsy, and we are proud to have had a dependable friend like Bill.
