Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Jim Robinson on March 27, 2010:
I was chagrined to see no eulogy has been posted for Abe. As in life it seems his death is to be borne in solitude and few reflections. I first met (then Major) Glass in 1958 as a young Lt assigned to be a platoon leader with Co A, 1st BG, 9th Inf (Alaska). He was the S1 and always seemed somewhat shy and reserved, but an excellent role model to many young officers who had yet to experience combat.
As a WWII veteran Maj Glass instilled a sense of duty in us, especially for a peacetime Army filled with draftees who resented the Arctic cold. Eventually my command positions gave way to necessary staff duty and I was fortunate to be the Asst S-1 under Maj Glass. Since I came up through the ranks, Maj glass saw fit to imbue many West Point ideals into my everyday duties for which I am duly grateful to this day. It is due to those ideals that my own career saw success in combat and on other fields of endeavor.
Albeit somewhat late writing this brief eulogy for him, I send my deepest condolences to his family, and hope they know he is not forgotten by a troop.
