Jeffrey B. Jones

West Point, 1971

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Dr. Theodore M. Guerrant on April 18, 2010:

I remember Jeffrey from high school at Woodward (formerly Georgia Military) Academy. Jeff was our brigade commander in 1966-67 and, even then, a born leader. He excelled at everything he did (and he did nearly everything), and was greatly respected by students and faculty alike. I am proud to have once attended the same high school as Jeff, and regard him as one of my personal heroes. He made our country a safer, better place, and gave his all for our national security. Sir Stephen Spender's poem "The Truly Great" could well have been written about Jeff: "The names of those who in their lives fought for life, Who wore at their hearts the fire's centre. Born of the sun, they travelled a short while toward the sun And left the vivid air signed with their honour." May Our Lord receive Jeff into His Holy Presence, and comfort his loved ones who are left behind.
