Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Edwin O. Matthes on April 29, 2010:
I knew Bill at Paso Robles High School in Paso Robles, CA in 1954-55. Bill was an extraordinary high school athlete, playing 1st string fullback on a talented championship high school football team. He was a three year All-Conference star player. But he also was a three year varsity letterman in basketball and baseball. This pleasant, likable, and talented athlete was also a fine student, a leader, and a great role model for all those younger students, like me, who were fortunate enough to know him.
For years I have been trying to trying to find out more about Bill's life after he left California for West Point. Unfortunately, all I have been able to find is his MA graduation date, and the date of his passing. I have contacted the MA but have not been successful in learning more about Bill. I would just like to know things like: did he play intercollegiate sports at the Academy? Where did he serve, and in what capacity, in the military? Did he marry? Children? What did he do after he left the Military, if he did leave the Military? How did he die?
I would like to be able to share more about this marvelous man with my family and friends. God Bless him.
Dr. Eddie Matthes
