Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Barry Harriss on May 21, 2010:

John was one of my Plebe year roommates, and was an ineresting character. He elected to study Russian, and was helped a lot bt my other "roomie", Dick Szymczyk, who spoke Russian fluently. His other choices were flyfishing and fencing, both of which he excelled at. Dick gave him his nickname, "Sparky" which came about when John was combing his hair and created sparks. It stuck, but after graduation the name apparently faded away. He was a gentle, soft-spoken person, very contemplative and sincere, and after the death of his wife he retreated to the woods and streams to find solace and peace.
After graduation and his service as a pilot in the USAF we did not hear about him much. He will be missed by all of B-1.
