Be Thou At Peace

Posted by John Sloan on May 25, 2010:

Like so many other members of the West Point Forum discussion group, I came to know John as a result of his many enlightened and enlightening contributions to numerous discussions on a wide variety of topics. I was surprised and felt quite honored when John invited me to join him and his wife on the special occasion when the Coast Guard places the bouy marking the spot in Baltimore harbor where Francis Scott Key was located on a British man of war during the Bombardment of Ft Henry. I had never even heard of this ceremony. John was a gracious host and overflowing with historical information about the original event and the Coast Guard ceremonies. He took very great pride in the Coast Guard for obvious reasons. Now his daughter will be carrying on his legacy of service to the country.
Be thou at peace.
