Be Thou At Peace

Posted by William T. McNamara on July 30, 2010:

Jo. It was with great sadness that I missed seeing Sonny and you at the 50th and upon hearing of his passing.

Sonny, Mike Field and I were roomates at a place called "Lakeside 6" in Clarksville TN. We were very close and we were always together both at Duty and at home. We were all 3 assigned to the 506 PIR together.

I consider myself fortunate to have heard from other classmates that you and Sonny were at the 50th and then immediately called. It was if Sonny and I had been talking everyday since our togetherness--we just clicked.

Sonny had been a major part of my memories of both West Point and the service. I had never forgotton him thru the years and thank God that we had our chance to talk and share that we loved each other. That meant a lot to me and always has.

Sonny was a loyal and true friend to both Mike and I. He is not gone as he is and will always be in my thoughts and prayers.

Since I could not get to NC in time, I played our West Point songs during the funeral--I was there, as were others, in spirit, Jo.

GOD BLESS LTC. HUGHES LANIER ASH, Jr. - Class of 1960 AND YOU ALSO JO.
