Colonel Mayfield was my Battalion Commander in 3/70th Armor during my stint as a Tank Platoon Leader during Tank Gunnery Qualification in 1969. We were stationed in Augsburg, Germany, as part of the 24th Infantry Division (Forward). I was sent to his battalion TDY as an Ordnance Officer to learn tank gunnery procedures. Colonel Mayfield led with a steady hand and was always willing to help young officers out. Thanks, Colonel, for the memories. May God hold you in His hands until we get there. |
