Retired Col. Walter William Plummer died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Col. Plummer was born May 3, 1923, in Omaha, Neb., and attended the University of Nebraska before entering the Military Academy in West Point. He was a graduate of the class of 1948 and married Catharine Watkins Prentiss in 1949. He served in the U.S. Army until retirement in 1975, when he and his wife settled in Frederick.

Col. Plummer was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Lee, in 2008; and his wife, Catharine, in May 2010.

Col. Plummer is survived by three children, Andrew Plummer of Sydney, Australia, Margretta Brown of Grenada, Calif., and Louis Plummer of Ashland, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fisher House Foundation, a non-profit which provides assistance for families with wounded/injured soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital.
