Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Chris Valentine USMA '82 on December 8, 2010:

Andy,

You were a great soldier, leader, and most importantly a great friend.

Last Orders by Chris Valentine

I'm certain you influenced many a one
Led in battle, some mother's son
Performed your duty and did it well
Lessons from you will always dwell

Regular child was I, with no idea
Of the heroism displayed, in a cold Korea
All I knew was a man full of kindness
Who opened my eyes away from life's blindness

Andy taught me that service is not for one's self
Not for the medals displayed on a shelf
Rather to find the good in all that you do
With help for others with honor held true

The Army sent you places, far and wide
Your last orders now place you beside
The brave soldiers, who rest now in peace
I honor your friendship and divine release
