Be Thou At Peace

Posted by LTC Mike Lundy on October 29, 2004:

For the previous 12 months I had the privilege to have Chris serve as one of my Attack Company Commanders. He was everything I could have hoped for in a leader and he led his company in battle with superb results. Chris had a special bond with his Soldiers and with the many units he supported on the battlefield. Charlie Company accomplished amazing things under his leadership, flying over 2,000 combat missions in support of 17 different ground maneuver battalions in the most demanding urban environment in the world. Although many of the Soldiers he and his company supported on the ground would not recognize him just in passing, the mention of his call sign (Outlaw 06) would bring instant recognition and words of gratitude. On over 200 missions that he personally led, Chris showed undaunted courage and valor and he truly embodied the battalion's Hawaiian motto: Lele Makou No Na Puali; We Fly For the Troops!.

To the Johnson Family, you can be very proud of what Chris has done for our Nation. He was a compassionate and caring leader who always placed the needs of others ahead of his own. Without fail, he always did what was right and I knew I could count on him in the toughest times. As Chris would expect, the battalion is continuing mission. I also am confident he is still watching over his Soldiers, just as he did so well for the last 12 months. Thank you for giving us such a great son and leader. You will always be in our thoughts and prayers.
