Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Jim Pocock on March 28, 2011:

Bill and I entered West Point in 1953 from the Lansing, Michigan area. With a year's college behind me, academics were easier for me, and I admired Bill's determination to succeed in competition with older classmates. Although we were in different regiments, we remained good friends and I always enjoyed being with him because of his sense of humor.

We went skiing together in Michigan the December after graduation with my fiancee and my sister. Bill injured his knee falling on a thunder run, and I felt badly that it put him in the hospital at Ft. Benning, delaying his completion of Ranger School. Regretably our paths didn't cross often in military service, but we had a great time at our 45th Reunion catching up on each other's lives. Bill was very proud of his children, and happy to be living in California. Bill was a wonderful man who made life better for those who knew him.
