Saul Antman Jacobs Born January 28, 1929 -- Died April 15, 2011 Saul Antman "Jake" Jacobs was born in Brooklyn, New York on 28 January 1929 and was appointed to West Point from the 13th Congressional District. His West Point classmates recall: "Like the prover-bial Tree, Jake `grew' in Brooklyn. Fleeing the brick and steel of N.Y., he moved to Cornell University and through its halls into the Army. The Tree blossomed and Jake entered the Academy. Jake is practical and worked for friendships and week ends as well as graduation. More than having friends, Jake was a friend and with this attribute his future success is assured." During his cadet days Jake was with the Russian Club; on the Public Information Detail; went out for Boxing; was on the Pointer Calendar staff; on the Election Committee; and was a Co M-2 Cadet Supply Sergeant his first class year. Upon graduation Jake went in the Air Force and after flying training reported to Korea in 1953 and was decorated with the Bronze Star Medal for distinguished heroism against an enemy. In 1956 Jake earned a Master of Science degree Civil Engineering from Purdue University. From 1959 to 1962 Jake served with the 7513th Airborne Squadron and then was assigned to the Office of Civil Engineering, National Regulatory Agency from 1962 to 1966. Next Jake went with the Air Force Reserve, Civil Engineers, Republic of Vietnam and was decorated with the Commendation Medal for distinguished service. Jake's last military assignment was to Headquarters, Department of the Air Force from 1966 to 1970 when he retired from the United States Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel. After his retirement Jake accepted a position as Project Manager with a Consulting Engineering firm and in 1985 became a Partner in the firm. Jake and his wife Arlene made their home in McLean, Virginia. The May 1991 Assembly noted, "T reports that Saul, who had a heart attack in December, is recovering nicely with Arlene's help. He carefully selected his MD, a skier who believes in exercise when recovering from a heart attack. Result: Saul bought a condo in Snowmass, CO, a great ski area, and in February will be there to recover and ski."
