Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Catherine Brod on May 27, 2011:

Dear Miller Family:
My son, Ryan Brod, received the Zacharia Miller Memorial Award last Thursday as part of the 2011 graduation week academic awards. I was touched when I realized that this memorial award was for someone who had fallen so recently after graduation and inquired, privately, of the parent forum moderators to learn more about your son. The moderator tenderly remembered Zacharia, his astounding accomplishments and your tragedy. She directed me to his Eulogy page and suggested that you might like to hear from us, as our son and yours have some similar characteristics. I read some of Zacharia's journal entries and blog. What an extraordinarily intelligent and insightful young man. You must have been very proud of him. Please know that Zacharia is well remembered through this memorial award. Like your son, Ryan is a Math (and Arabic) major, an honor graduate and a scholarship recepient. While Zacharia choose to lead physically through rugby, Ryan led through his company Sandhurst team. I understand that Zacharia traveled to remote areas of the world and volunteered. Ryan has studied and volunteered in the middle east and Mexico, respectively. They also both branched infantry and intended to receive their master's degrees in the UK....We are honored and humbled that Ryan was choosen to receive this award in your son's name. Our family will continue to remember Zacharia, his accompishments, his selfless service as we see him through our son's continuing growth and development as an officer and scholar. I am so very sorry for your loss. I can't even imagine, but perhaps knowing that your son's spirit continues to be remembered and honored through this award, may provide you some small comfort. I pray that it does.
Sincerely,
Catherine Brod
