Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Keith Garner on June 3, 2011:

I met Ken on the Debate Council and Forum and we were together later at Camp Buckner, on class trips, etc. As fellow Texans, we got along well. He was very friendly, had a ready smile, and a unique sense of humor. I saw him several times after we both retired from the Army, mostly at mini-reunions organized by Jim Pearl in San Antonio, TX. I saw him several times on other occasions, as he was an attorney and was friends with several attorneys in Abilene, including Grant Jones, with whom Ken had once been a law partner and who was in the Kiwanis Club of Abilene with me.

Ken told me he had once been mistaken for Kenny Rogers (country and western singer) and his daughter mistaken for Brooke Shields (movie star) at a Dallas restaurant. The manager would not believe they were not the famous pair and refused to let Ken pay for the meal!

I was shocked and deeply saddened to learn of his passing. I miss him very much.
