Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Gabriel Marriott on November 18, 2004:

I was on the treadmill last night watching the news with the latest update on the recapture of Fallujah, and Dan Rather was expressing how well our troops were doing. At the closing of that segment, he transitioned to another story on a man that served as a husband, soldier, and warrior. I couldn?t have been more proud to see that he was talking about Ben and his wife, Maggie.

Mr. Rather commented on their flight school courtship and Ben?s dedication to being an Army Aviator. He went on to display pictures showing Ben with his permanent smile as he was bordered by Maggie and helicopters. Dan Rather is an eloquent newscaster, but he couldn?t begin to describe what a tremendous person Ben was. This brief news segment stopped me in my tracks as I was reminded of what a great American and friend we lost last year.

Maggie, my wife and I speak about Ben and pray for you often. Please know that rarely a day goes by that I don?t think about him and how his sacrifice will never be forgotten. When my daughter is born next week, rest assured she?ll grow up hearing about Ben and what a great soldier and selfless individual he was.
