Charles R. Witmer

West Point, 1951

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by D'Arcy Stephens Charney Wagonhurst on June 26, 2011:

Charles and I have been friends ever since he was selected to be one of my father's "plebes" in 1947. He was at our home frequently, and I got to know his entire family well. He even introduced me to Ted Charney who would later become my husband. Our friendship endured over many years, and we always kept in touch, even if not too frequently. I got to know and enjoy his wife, Julia, and his sons (when they were younger.) I'm sure they have grown into men of whom Charles would be proud.

Charles was a man of great intelligence and integrity. Although he was a military man, he enjoyed music and art, and was a quite competent artist himself. With his varied interests and enthusiasms and his insistence on "the honorable choice" , he was a true son of West Point, and one of which his Alma Mater can be proud. His many friends will miss him.
