Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Neil on December 1, 2004:

The news of LTC McMahon's tragic death hit me, and rest of the USMA and Air Cavalry community, like a freight train.

I had the honor of working for MAJ/LTC McMahon's during his stint as Warrior 3, the Operations Officer for 4th Bde, 1st Cavalry Division.

LTC McMahon was a consummate professional--a tremendous officer, a gifted and natural leader, an instinctive aviator, and a great friend and mentor. His 'lead from the front attitude' was absolutely contagious and inspired all of us to work harder and actually have fun doing it. He and his beautiful family showed us that you could indeed raise a family in the army and do it the right way.

I cannot fathom the pain his family is feeling now, and can only say that I am sorry, and that he will be missed by many. We will miss him running circles around our formation on 5 mile Brigade runs around West Fort Hood. We will miss trying in vain to keep up with him on the flickerball or frisbee fields. We will miss his positive attitude and eternal optimism at the Army Football tailgates or Army/Navy parties. But most of all, we will miss the way he lived everyday and inspired others to be the best we could.

To COL Jeannette and the boys and the rest of the McMahon family, I am heartily sorry for your tremendous loss. You are and will stay in our prayers.

Very Respectfully,

Neil and Bridgette Kugler
USMA 1995
