As a cadet, I met then MAJ Cooper when he agreed to be the OIC for the West Point Baptist Student Union. He was a superb example of an officer, gentleman, husband, and father, but most appropriately, a Christian. I was the President of the BSU my Firstie year and Charles and Martha opened their home to me and other members of the BSU. They were fun to be with - they were unforgettable. I sought his advice when it came time for branch selection and my first assignment. I sincerely appreciated his candor and career guidance. Over the years, I lost contact with the Cooper family, but hearing of Charles' passing brought very fond memories of a superb officer and friend. Martha and kids, you have my sincere condolences. Charles, Be Thou at Peace! |
