Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Jon S. Ladd on October 13, 2011:
I served with Paul and his brother Brian (Citadel '79) in the 24th Infantry Division, 2nd Bde HQ. Paul was one of the finest officers I ever knew and a true gentleman and scholar. He was admired by all who knew him and died tragically due to the carelessness of an intoxicated driver on a dark highway between Savannah, GA and Ft. Stewart. GA. He was one of those individuals that everyone new early in his career that he was destined for Stars and greatness. I was the survivor assistance officer for his family and part of the honor guard for his service in Florida. I felt privileged to meet his seven siblings, all very impressive in their own right. His father, was a retired Colonel from the Army and his mother the picture of a southern genteel lady. It was not hard to see why Paul, their oldest was so special and loved by his family. There isn't a year go by I don't remember Paul in October and the contribution he had yet to give to his country. For many years I sent his family a Christmas Card and keep up with Tom and Brian. After a while, I felt that maybe my cards might be a painful reminder of a great loss of their son and brother. If they ever read this, I wish them all well and healing. I am retired from service, live in Nashville, Tn and am raising two sons with my wife.
