Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Deanna Davila Nelson on November 3, 2011:

Today is a day that we are remembering you John David. I know today must be incredibly hard for those who loved and lived with you while you were here on Earth. We will be with your parents on Saturday for church services to honor you and remember you in our own way.

I remember when you used to spend summers with us in Lubbock. Those memories can be so painful but most times, they bring a smile and laughter to our faces. I will always remember when you asked me if you could be our "brother" and I said, "You will always be our brother." And so you were and always will be our brother.

I remember your laugh so clearly and you were always pulling pranks and just being such a cut up and a teaser. I am so glad that I can look back and remember you always laughing. I know Joey, Cyndi, Laurie and I always think about when we would play the board game Wa-hoo and you used to love to count the marbles as they moved around the board. I remember all the times I took you to Burger King for a Whopper because you wanted it your way!

As you got older, it became apparent that you were going to go places because you were smarter than a whip. When you went to West Point, we were so thrilled for you and we just knew that one day you could be President of the United States. I try not to think of where you would be now if you were still here because its useless to go there. While you were here, you truly lived and did more things than most of us will ever do in our lifetime. We miss you but nevermore so than your parents.

You were here for a short time but we will see you again and surely this time we will never be parted from you again. We love you.

Your loving cousin and sister,
Deanna Davila Nelson
