John became a mentor to me in 1970 when I was posted to the Joint Staff and he was the Army Planner for Joint Actions that were assigned to me. His wise and gentle guidance will for me always be the example of how to help junior officers rise to the greater responsiilites that serve our Army so well. For the last several years we have greeted each other at the Army-Navy Club Athletic Center, where he again set the example for those of us who followed in his footsteps. I will miss John greatly.
