Be Thou At Peace

I'll never forget meeting "Cochise" Elias on our first day of West Point Preparatory School in Newburgh, New York in 1954 when none of us military enlisteds quite knew what to expect. We all had a lot of spunk and go-getum during those early days when Paul and I were the "old" men, oftentimes leading some of the younger ones a bit astray. Fortunately, we learned enough in 10 months to pass the entrance exams to West Point, even though we had a few mischievous evenings at the bars in Newburgh and many nights of beer parties at the Prep School PX. Paul and several of us from the Prep School became friends for life. Paul Elias was always a "man's man" and one of the best friends anybody could have! He'll be missed by many and as we have repeated often in our own prayers "Be Thou At Peace--Job Well Done!" |
