To Mrs. Patricia Groves, Upon reading of your husband's death and noting the familiar name, I contacted Margaret Groves, the widow of my Class of 1958 classmate & K-1 Company-mate, Richard N. Groves (Cullum: 21664). She confirmed what I suspected: that your husband was a distant cousin of our Dick Groves. Dick was an avid golfer as a cadet and he sponsored & competed in numerous golf tournaments at our Class of '58 mini-reunions. The Class of '58 recently created a "Groves Memorial Golf Trophy" in his honor that is awarded at subsequent class reuniors. Margaret also wanted you to know that before his death, Dick and Margaret endowed a "Groves Golf Center" at West Point as a tribute in honor of ALL the Groves Family members. She ended her message, "Grip hands for him"... |
