Colonel Ringler was the deputy commander of the 3rd Infantry Regiment when I became a new Second Lieutenant of Infantry in 1964 through the Infantry OCS program. On many occasions I talked with Colonel Ringler at length about the things that made us different and the way in which we were expected to live our lives as professional soldiers. His was good guidance since I lacked same from a family background. I always enjoyed the beers and talk with him at the old Guard Lounge on those oft evenings when an inpromptu officers call was signaled. My respects to Colonel Ringler and his family; he was a very good man to me and to many other young officers who gained that sense of who we were becoming from a real professional soldier. |
