Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Frank Scarangella on March 1, 2012:

I had the pleasure of serving with Fred in the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment 1960-61. He and Carol were neighbors in our on-post quarters. It was very evident that Fred was a soldier's soldier. He was already Ranger-Airborne, and a aqualified paracute rigger. We teased that Fred would not attend a class unless another patch was offered. I watched him rig his own chute on the lawn on Saturday mornings and accompanied him twice on his sky diving adventures. After Ft. Meade, my wife and I visited he and Carol at Carol's parents' home in Pompton Plains. What a pleasure that was. I learned of his death from my lifelong friend Tom Van Riper USMA '60. I will remember him always.
