| I am the nephew and namesake of John William Vester. Although he died before I was born, as a child I grew up proudly wearing his West Point uniforms and shirts with the Indian Head patch of the 2nd Inf Division. From family members I came to know and admire his quiet heroism and the idealism and dedication to "Duty, Honor, Country" which pushed him to sacrifice above and beyond my understanding. Now few are left who remember that time. If anyone who knew him in life comes across these words, perhaps they would not mind contacting me. In the meantime, we keep the faith and will continue to work until his remains are brought home from North Korean soil to a peaceful resting place. |
