Be Thou At Peace

Retired Army Col. Henry Boswell Jr. passed away in Greensboro, N.C., on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at the age of 91.

Henry was born in Sanatorium, Miss., to Dr. Henry Boswell, founder of the Mississippi State Tuberculosis Sanatorium, and Iola Saunders Boswell. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1941 and served in the China Burma India theater of World War II throughout the war. Upon his return, he obtained his MBA from Harvard and continued to serve in the Army until his retirement at Fort Lee, Va.

Upon his retirement in 1970, he managed a marina in Hatteras, N.C., before becoming the director of the Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce. After fully retiring, he settled in Grand Junction, Colo., before moving to Greensboro in 2001.

He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years Catharine Eastburn Boswell; two sons, Lt. Cmdr. Henry Boswell III, and Dr. John E. Boswell; and two sisters, Georgia Neal Tyson and Helen Dear, both of Jackson.

Henry is survived his daughter, Patricia E. Boswell, of Greensboro; and son, Wray Boswell of Virginia Beach, Va.; grandson, Andrew Boswell of Chesapeake, Va.; granddaughter, Heather Swann of Virginia Beach; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Barbara Stauss and Peggy Johnson, of Jackson, Miss.

A memorial will be conducted at a later time, to be determined. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Nature Conservancy, the Salvation Army or Hospice of Greensboro.
