| John and I were in the same Beast company and I remember Jon Blades '66 calling him out in a falsetto Darrrliiing. He was our battalion signal officer in the 2/506 101st Abn and I frequently flash on his smiling face as he lowered a new radio to my platoon. I later heard that he was due to go on R&R soon and his wife was already on her way when he was killed. When I related that to my wife, she said that she had witnessed a woman being taken aside as the women waited for all of us to arrive - we have always wondered if that woman's husband had been killed. I remember John very well and always admired him. |
