Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Wanda Jennings on December 27, 2012:
I was surfing my facebook newsfeed, and for a strange reason Marty crossed my mind. I met Marty only once in 1971 but we wrote letters for a brief period when he attended West Point. I met Marty at my stepfather's aunt's home in Durham, NC. Marty was the godson of one his relatives. I was only 15 years old and was fascinated by this bright, intelligent, witty and handsome young black man that was representing the afro american community at West Point.(We took that sort of thing very seriously in the 1970's) Although Marty touched my life briefly..he left an impression on me, that dreams are obtainable for a black teen in the South, this was a motivation that I never forgot. I don't know why I thought of him after 42 years, but to find that he has made the transition, was a complete shock. I would like to let his family and most of all his children know that their father was a powerful force and served as a positive influence on those that were blessed to be in his presence. Marty was a special man and a spirit that was here for a short time to do God's will. He served his purpose here on earth and left his loving heart and spirit in his children. Believe that all of you are gifted and have a legacy of love to continue that belonged to your father..Marty..
