Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Erik Everton (1987) on March 4, 2013:

I took part in today's West Point Ring Melt for 2013 at Pease & Curran in Warwick, RI. This was my first time attending and I had the honor of placing Dr. Mangum's West Point Class Ring into the crucible (including a proper salute) to be melted with 35 other former grad rings. The rings will be used to become a part of the making of the class of 2014 rings. Before I placed Dr. Mangum's ring into the crucible, I tapped his ring against mine a few times (insuring the transfer from West Pointer to West Pointer) so that the long gray line will continue on - not only phyically, but spiritually. I did not have the pleasure of knowing Dr. Mangum personally, but after reading his bio and some of the eulogies on his web page, I wish I had. I am honored to have been able to take part in this ceremony and to have passed the torch from Dr. Mangum.
