Lawrence Michael Kelly

Born November 22, 1928 - Died February 22, 2013

Lawrence Michael "Larry" Kelly was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on 22 November 1928 and was appointed to West Point from the 4th Congressional District.

His West Point classmates recall: "'Killer' got his nickname from the frequent bull sessions where we were absorbed by his feminine conquests. What fascinated his friends most was his endless supply of the latest rumors. 'Don't make a move without calling Kelly; he'll find out anyway' became a K-2 by-word. Always a friend, Larry's sympathizing nature and amiability carried many a weary soul through his four year term."

During his cadet days Larry was with Bugle Notes and the Skeet Club yearling, cow and first class years; with the Camera Club plebe year; and was a Cadet Sergeant his first class year.

Upon graduation Larry went in the Artillery and after completing the Basic Artillery Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma reported to the 68th Armored Field Artillery Battalion, 1st Armored Division where he served from 1951 to 1952. Larry's next assignment was to the 980 Field Artillery Battalion, 40th Division in Korea where he served from 1952 to 1953 then he went to the 6th Armored Field Artillery Battalion. In 1960 Larry was appointed Assistant Professor of Military Science at Xaiver University and served until 1962.

In 1966 Larry resigned his commission as a Major and in 1967 earned a MBA from the University of Michigan. He then accepted a position with the Detroit Bank and Trust Company.

Larry made his home in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
