Be Thou At Peace
Posted by BG RM Ong (Ret) on May 18, 2013:
Today is Memorial Day, 2013. Tomorrow, I meet my classmates once more -- to celebrate our 50th Reunion at West Point. Ron Steinig will be with us in spirit only.
I distinctly remember Ron, as a topnotch classmate. Perhaps we were in the same company or even the same Platoon in Camp Buckner during our Yearling Summer. One could see that Ron was a natural leader -- bright, athletic, articulate -- and always fulfilling his role in any situation. He and I were in different Regiments for the most part of our time at West Point, but we always had occasions to say hello and exchange a few pleasantries.
In our senior year, Ron wore the stripes of a Cadet Lieutenant. This means that the Tactical Department, as well as his Company classmates, had recognized his outstanding qualities. I am sure that he did his job admirably.
I never saw Ron after Graduation Day. We served in Vietnam in the same time frame, but our paths never crossed. I do know that he had a successful career in the Army.
Be thou at peace, amigo. Here is my final salute!
