Be Thou At Peace
Posted by BG RM Ong (Ret) on May 19, 2013:
Today is Memorial Day and it is a good time to remember the classmates who have passed away over the years. Tomorrow, I join my classmates as USMA Class of 1963 celebrates its 50th Reunion at West Point. Dick Higgins will miss this reunion by a few days -- he passed away only about 2 weeks before. His spirit will be with us, as we stroll around The Plain one more time.
Fifty years have gone by since Graduation Day, when we said farewell to each other and the institution that had been our home for 4 years. Memories of those years and those classmates are fading away. I barely remember Dick Higgins, except that he was a jock and a member of the Corps Squad Hockey Team.
Dick was in Company A-1, while I was in Company E-2, different Regiments in different areas, so our paths rarely crossed. But someday we shall meet again and make up for lost time.
Be thou at peace, my friend. Here is my final salute!
Brigadier General Ramon M. Ong (Retired) Armed Forces of the Philippines USMA 1963
