Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Adam Nordin on June 13, 2013:

Phil,

It's been so long my brother. I remember the hours following the notification... I gave the announcement to the D-3 Devils at a company formation - one of the most emotional events that I will never forget.

I apologize to you for not having better timing this year: my connectivity hasn't been great. I'm currently deployed at JRTC - I actually flew on Memorial Day weekend and thought I'd be able to write a note when I arrived.

I want you to know, Phil, you are not forgotten. I still remember the countless hours we spent in the gym and training for Sandhurst. Some great times, man!

I'm now a Infantry Rifle Company Commander in 1-32 IN out of Fort Drum. We are fortunate enough to have the hardest mission in the BDE: secure a company COP, secure a SFAAT team, and prepare the COP for retrograde.

Still to this day, whenever I prepare for or step off for a patrol, I see your face, Phil, and I remember that this mission is not for me. The memory of you permits me to make the tough decisions, train hard, and prepare for the tough road ahead - more than I could ever ask for.

Your memory lives on, Phil. With every beat of my heart, you will not be forgotten.

-Adam
