Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Dempsey Darrow on July 11, 2013:

I was greatly saddened to hear that you'd left us, John. We met later in life, our separate efforts on behalf of our alma mater ensured that our paths would cross regularly. Whenever I made a trip to West Point you and Angela would open your home to me, making sure that I always had a dry place to lay my head and enjoy a warm meal. You made me feel like I'd come home, not that I was only visiting.

You were always up front and a straight shooter. You looked me in the eye when you spoke and I could bank your words. Your name will always be spoken with respect that was earned, not commanded by rank or implied by station.

I will miss your advice and your counsel. Most of all, I will miss your friendship. I wish our paths had crossed much sooner.

Though you left us too soon, John, let it be said: Well Done!

Be at peace, my friend.
