Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Kyle Davis on May 4, 2005:

I'll always remember Steve as my first real taste of West Point. Steve was my Beast One squad leader and taught me how to be a West Point cadet. He was always professional, always pushing us to achieve more, but he was never harsh to us. He taught us discipline, but in a way in which we could tell that he cared.

He was the pattern on which I based my cadet life and method of training cadets. He was the reason that I wanted to do Beast One as my West Point detail. He was a huge factor in developing my love for West Point.

I'll always remember getting the Beast Barracks video late in my plebe year, and watching it with friends. When Steve came on, a huge grin spred across my face, and I'd remember all the great stories from Beast.

It's fitting that I say 'Well Done, be thou at peace' to the man who taught me the Alma Mater, and made me recite it until it was memorized and a part of my life. Thank you, Steve, for all that you taught me and inspired me to be. May a piece of you live on through my career and service.

Go Bludgeoneers, Sir!
