Be Thou At Peace

Posted by George "Keith" Garner on October 21, 2013:

I met Fenton "Gruce" Griffith on the first day of Beast Barracks and have liked him ever since. His constant smirk brought him a lot of grief from upperclassman; however, he thought it was funny. We were both in A-2 and ran around together a lot. After graduation, we were both stationed at Ft. Bragg, where our families became close. He and Marilyn would leave their girls with us to "baby sit". We started with their oldest, before we had children of our own, and when he and Marilyn came to pick her up, she would refuse to go, which elicited the comment from "Gruce", "It sure is bad when your own kids hate you!"

For many years after he left the Army, we would get together, either when they were coming close to where we lived or when we came close to where they lived.

I always looked forward to seeing "Gruce" at the annual A-2 min-reunions. I miss him terribly.
