Freddie Gene Sartin

Born September 23, 1929 -- Dies December 21, 2013

Freddie Gene "Fred" Sartin was born in Georgia on 23 September 1929 and was appointed to West Point from the 1st Congressional District of Alabama.

His West Point classmates recall: "With a pool cue in one hand and a lifetime subscription to `Body Beautiful' in the other, Fred-of-the-bulging-biceps entered the Academy. This equipment, plus a trumpet that gave the impression of a long, full life and a playing ability of equal merit, was constantly in use during his four years. Georgia-born and Alabama-bred, his allegiance to the Confederacy was never once in doubt."

On graduation Fred went in the Infantry and after completing the Basic Infantry Course at Fort Benning, Georgia reported to Fort Dix, New Jersey where he served through 1952. His next assignment was to the 223th Infantry Regiment, 40th Division in Korea where he earned the Combat Infantryman Badge.

In 1954 Fred resigned his commission as a First Lieutenant and returned to Mobile, Alabama where he has been engaged as a Consultant since.

Fred and his wife Charlotte made their home in Mobile, Alabama.
