Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Greg Lege on July 16, 2014:
I knew Ryan when he was just Robey. We were friends in high school in Houston and my memories with Ryan are mostly from that time, 1986-1989. When he would come home to Houston to visit over holidays during his time at West Point and in the Army, he did tell me the 'table man' stories and he told them as big as you have described here. He was proud of table man. In particular, I can remember when Ryan and I were sailing in my small catamaran on Lake Sommerville in Texas. That was one of those 'Ryan visiting and telling stories of his adventures' kind of days. Most of the stories he told that day and the one where he really beamed was 'table man.' In high school, he did something he called the 'seal walk' - this was basically 'table man' in its infancy.
Holidays 2000, I had a get together of old high school friends. Ryan was able to attend and we obviously had no idea it would be one of the last times we saw him as a group of friends. For that party, we were lucky enough to get together with people we had not seen a long time prior to that and have not seen a long time since then.
I cannot believe he is gone now just as I cannot believe he had left when we all found out after the funeral and through a bizarre coincidence (a cousin of one of his high school friends was trained by Robey and heard of his passing and passed it along). Thus, other than talking about his memory often with other high school friends, I never got to say goodbye to my great friend Ryan.

I miss you dearly.
