Be Thou At Peace

I still remember the last day I saw you. You were headed to West Point, both nervous and excited. You had that Springsteen smile on you the whole time, which whenever I think of you now, it's there. Being at your funeral was very hard. It was 10 years ago, but I still remember the sorrow, but I also remember how much love I felt in that church, and in the high school cafeteria afterwards. I took in a lot of moments that day. I remember looking around and seeing just how many people loved you. I remember people taking turns talking about the memories they had with you and how great a person and friend you were. I was only fortunate enough to have a friendship with you through work at Arnold Line, but we knew we were friends despite just seeing each other at work. Whenever we did see each other, I always knew I'd get that Erin Springsteen smile. Even when you were frustrated, bored or tired, somehow you managed to smile. I just wanted you to know I was thinking of you today and I know, way up there in that awesome sky, you're smiling, and I know you can see me smiling right back atcha, just like when we were on the docks. Keep smiling, Erin, because when you do, we all feel that little reminder of you and it makes our day better. Rest in peace my friend.
