Be Thou At Peace

Posted by SHANON HELBOCK CRUMBLEY on December 28, 2014:

I was born the year my dad graduated West Point and moved to Las Cruces, NM. I never got to know my dad since he and my mom split when I was 13 and just becoming an adult. I went to live with him at one point but Cathy couldn't stand it so he sent me back to NM. It made me sad that I never got to know him and then when I read his obituary and Cathy didn't even mention me or my brother in it. Well what would I expect from the little home wrecker. The last time I saw him was at his house in Lake Oswego in 1990 I took my kids to meet their grandpa. I remember he was approaching the table with dinner and stated that his biggest regret in life was not staying and seeing me through my raising... that meant a lot to me. Maybe he did want to know me and spend time with me, but I'll never know. I always will remember the dad that I had in Islamabad the 2.5 years we were there without television or transportation. Nightly he would read the Hobit to me and rich or we would play scrabble... he spent time with us. I was real young then after that I always felt a void or a longing to know him better. The college student, just a few years older than my sister, that took him away and kept it all his love his kinship his money everything. Oh well Karma always finds it's way to make things right.
