Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Tom Root on June 11, 2005:
I had the honor of working with (then) LTC Westhusing during my Firstie year at West Point. He was an exceedingly ethical and helpful man, always willing to go the extra mile to help out a cadet or the Honor Committee. COL Westhusing was nothing short of brilliant. Though he never made anyone feel dumb, just a short conversation with him made it apparent that he possessed an incredible mind, and was always one step ahead in thought.
I recall sitting in his office with him, after finishing the official business I had come for, and noticing his affinity for Bruce Springsteen. We compared notes on the Giants Stadium concert we had both attended. COL Westhusing had an amazing knack for music.
Always cheerful and helpful, quick to make time for any cadet, sharp and honed in both mind and body. Few professors were such a daily example of what an officer and graduate of West Point should be. We who knew him and learned from him can only hope to become men and women of his caliber.
"Grip hands, though it be from the shadows."
