Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Adam Nordin on May 28, 2015:

Phil,

I am a couple days late in writing to you this year for Memorial Day- I was returning from yet another deployment to Afghanistan. Though I was unable to write, I want you to know that thoughts and memories of you were fresh in my mind on the American Day of Heroes.

There has been much discussion on the social media about Americans not understanding the distinction between Memorial Day and Veteran's Day- many veterans ask to not be thanked for their service because this is a day of remembrance for those that have come and gone, and laid down their lives to pay the debt of freedom.

Today, Phil, I want to thank you for your service to this country, to your friends, to your family, and to the Army. The US Military is making significant strides as it transitions to a peacetime force amidst rising chaos and disruption in the Middle East and racial controversy on our homeland. But, without your service the freedoms we enjoy today in America would not be possible and the very power of our force would be questionable.

I rest easy knowing that men like you continue to guide us, give us strength, and light our paths when we cannot see.

Rest Well, Brother.

-Adam
