Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Randy Tink on June 25, 2005:

I was back home in Delaware for a few days, visiting with an old friend when he told me that Jay had passed away.

I had been good friends with his brother Will when we were at HB DuPont and then Salesianum together. My freshman year at Sallies, my brother, Will, Jay, Sean Curran, and I car pooled to school.

Jay was always someone Will and I looked up to. He was always the strong silent type, and it drove the girls crazy (I remember Michelle Rollins had a crush on him).

His prescence was like some hero out of a movie. His cause was always noble and just. And he always got the job done.

I lost touch with the Hartings when they moved to Europe. I always look forward to seeing people I haven't heard form in years. See how they are doing, that they are married and have kids.

After learning about what happened I felt an enormous sense of pride to have known him. Jay was a great American that will be missed by all who have come in contact with him.
